Overcoming Cultural Barriers & Stigma in Mental Health

By Divya Bharadwaj |

In the latest episode of Policy Chats, hosts Kevin Karami & Giovanna Arena sat down with Joy Chen, UCR Alumna and the Director of Operations & Strategies for Act Now for Mental Health to discuss mental health awareness and challenges.

“One of the big reasons anxiety and depression have been destigmatized has been because of social media - it has made others feel less alone,” said Chen. “I think hearing other people talk about what they are going through is so helpful in helping us process our emotions and understand that it isn’t just us.”

The episode also covers mental health challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and how everyone can pitch in as a community to alleviate overall well-being.
