If you entered as a first-year incoming student during the 2023-2024 school year, you are automatically under the new curriculum as seen below.
1.
Lower-division requirements
6 courses - at least 24 units
a) PBPL 001 (Introduction to Public Policy Analysis)
b) PBPL 002 (Politics and Public Policy)
c) ECON 003 (Introduction to Microeconomics)
d) PBPL 004 (Ethics, Professionalism, and Public Policy)
e) MATH 004 (Introduction to College Math for Business and Social Sciences)
f) CS 009A* (Date Oriented Introduction to Computing) or CS 005 (Introduction to Computer Programming)
* Prerequisite: MATH 004

Upper-division requirements
13 courses - at least 50 units
a) PBPL 100A (Data Analysis for Public Policy 1)
b) PBPL 100B (Data Analysis for Public Policy 2)
c) PBPL 101 (Case Studies in Public Policy)
d) Public Policy Electives (8 courses required [at least 32 units]: PBPL 102 - PBPL 189)
e) PBPL 191 (Seminar in Public Policy)
f) PBPL 198i (Individual Internship in Public Policy)
Which Catalogue Applies To Me?
If you entered as a first-year incoming student during the 2023-2024 school year, you are automatically under the new curriculum as seen above.
If you entered any years prior to Fall 2023 or were enrolled at another higher education institution, you can select either catalogue and complete its corresponding requirements.

a) PBPL 001 (Introduction to Public Policy Analysis)
b) PBPL 002 (Politics and Public Policy)

e) 1 course chosen from HIST 017B, HIST 020, HIST 020W, SOC 015 or SOC 020
f) 1 course chosen from PSYC 011, SOC 005, STAT 040 or STAT 048
2.
Upper-division requirements
12 courses - at least 48 units
a) PBPL 101 (Case Studies in Public Policy)
b) 10 courses chosen from 2 tracks, with no more than 7 courses from 1 track.

For reference, in order to declare the PBPL major you must have completed PBPL 001 with a grade of C or higher AND have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher.
