On Friday, June 25th, the School of Public Policy at the University of California, Riverside held its first ever year-end “State of the School.”

Through the virtual event, School personnel provided an overview of the 2020-2021 school year as the School coped with the COVID-19 pandemic and as its students dealt with an economic recession, civil unrest, and a history-making election season.

The event highlighted new research conducted by the School’s faculty and students, including a presentation by Professor Richard Carpiano, as well as students involved in the establishment of new student success initiatives such as the Roosevelt Network @UCR. 

The inaugural program was hosted by former California assemblymember Lloyd Levine, who serves as an advisory board member for the School. He was joined by public policy student Johanna Arias, who is a dean’s student ambassador.

"As you can imagine, this past year presented unique and extremely challenging circumstances for not just our students and their families but also for our staff and faculty,” said founding dean of the UCR School of Public Policy, Anil Deolalikar. “The State of the School is an opportunity to highlight how the School of Public Policy has adapted, evolved, and re-emerged stronger during these unprecedented times."

Established in 2012, the UCR School of Public Policy is one of only four public policy schools in the 10-campus UC system. It is home to the only Master of Public Policy (MPP) program offered by a major research university in inland Southern California, as well as the only undergraduate public policy program in the ten-campus University of California system.
