The UCR School of Public Policy will be hosting its next installment of the Water Seminar Series on December 6th, featuring Adel Hagekhalil (General Manager for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California), Joe Mouawad (General Manager for the Eastern Municipal Water District), and Randy Record (Director of the Metropolitan Water District and Eastern MWD).
The event, titled "One Water Solutions to Western Water Challenges: Creating a Resilient and Reliable Water Future in the Face of Climate Change,” will be held at Glen Mor K106/K108 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
The organizer of this event, Assistant Professor Mehdi Nemati said his vision for the event was about “opening a dialogue among the public, the water agencies, and policymakers [to] enhance the implementation of better and more effective water policies.”
During this event, speakers will discuss problems they are facing, solutions via collaboration among different agencies and sectors, and ideas moving forward in the face of climate change.
“Rising population numbers combined with increased frequency, longevity, and severity of climate change-induced droughts have resulted in elevated pressure on water resources in California and around the world,” Nemati said. “For these reasons, there is a need for continued collaboration among various water users (urban, agriculture, and environment), the water community, including the general public, water agencies, federal, state, and local regulators, non-profits, and academic sectors to advance our involvement in California’s water resource problems and management.”
