UCR to Hold Conference for Women's Political Engagement

On Thursday, October 24th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the annual Persist Women's Political Engagement Conference is being held at the Highlander Union Building (HUB 302) at University of California Riverside (UCR). This event is being hosted by the UCR Women's Resource Center, the UCR School of Public Policy (SPP), and UCR Governmental and Community Relations.

“I'm extremely excited for Persist because of the amazing line up of keynote speakers,” said Taylor Thompson, a member of the Persist Conference's planning committee. “This conference is the perfect place for community members to get inspiration straight from local policymakers.”

Persist is meant to inspire the Inland Empire community to get involved and engaged within the political sphere.

At this event, there are a multitude of politically involved speakers, with keynotes including:

  • The Honorable Eloise Gomez Reyes, Assembly Majority Leader Emerita
  • The Honorable Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, California State Senator, 23rd Senate District
  • The Honorable Patricia Lock Dawson, Mayor of the City of Riverside

Additionally, the conference features inspiring panels that give insight into local government and education:

Government and Community Relations: The Important Work Being Done From a GCR Lens, featuring:

  • Elizabeth Romero, Assistant Vice Chancellor, UCR’s Office of Governmental and Community Relations
  • Kathy Eiler, UCR Senior Director of Federal Relations
  • Carina Cabrera, Inland Empire Deputy Regional Director, Office of Governor Gavin Newsom
  • Erin Edwards, Executive Director, Blue Zones Riverside

The Importance of Local Government, featuring:
