Riverside Councilmember to Hold Virtual Seminar

By Mark Manalang |

The UCR School of Public Policy will host a webinar by City of Riverside Councilmember Clarissa Cervantes on Thursday, December 2nd.

Cervantes was elected into her City Council seat in June 2021, taking over the Ward 2 seat by retiring Councilmember Andy Melendrez.

The event will be led by UCR public policy students and will feature a front-facing student panel during the audience Q & A.

First-year public policy student Raiyan Kalam is emceeing the event. “Councilmember Cervantes represents the district encompassing UCR, and I invite all my peers to join and learn about how city government works,” he said.

Another student in the event planning committee, third-year public policy student Uthman Alaoui, echoed Kalam’s statement. “Councilmember Cervantes is only the second Latina and openly LGBTQ+ to serve in the City of Riverside Council, and she is the first Latina to represent her district. There is so much we as public policy students can learn from her.”

The event, which will be conducted via Zoom Webinar, is free and open to the public with advance registration
